The four phases of sexual response for males and females described by Masters and Johnson are includes: phase 1, excitement; phase 2, plateau; phase 3, orgasm; phase 4, resolution. These four phases depicts what is occurring with both male and female physiologically while they are engaging in sexual behavior. During phase 1, excitement, both female and males body genitalia begins to swell, heart rate increases, and the blood begins to flow. In the female the vagina becomes lubricated and the vagina walls swell. In the male the penis begins to leak liquid that help with lubrication.
