Middle ear infections are caused by bacteria behind the eardrum causing it to become inflamed causing pain in the ear. It’s more common in children than adults for the reason of the Eustachian tube, which is tube that connects from the middle ear to the pharynx, to be shorter in children than adults making the bacteria easier to get to the middle ear. Other causes of getting a middle ear infection is exposure to secondhand smoking, bottle feeding, daycare centers or if your child has a cold or some respiratory infection it can spread to the middle ear. If you want to prevent it you cannot smoke around your child, they would like you to breastfeed your baby for at least six months if not you can bottle feed just make sure you do not lay them flat on their backs. If you can have to bottle-feed your child make sure it’s an upright position instead of laying them on their back. All of these can prevent your child from getting a middle ear infection. There are preventions and they are solutions if you child gets a middle ear infection. Just know the severity to what can happen long term from an ear infection and help with the surroundings you put your child in because it will help them.
