Today in class we discussed what factors contribute to the formation of the Third World: illiteracy, poverty, and undernourishment. We then discussed why this came about; why is there so much uneven development? The key component to this problem is Neocolonialism: the idea that the freed nations from colonialism are politically independent, but they are economically dependent on their former mother countries. As a result, a majority of the neo-colonial countries are struggling in building a stronger economy.

For this project we designed an activity that showed how overpopulation is more about there being an insufficient amount of resources for the population. For the activity we divided the class into groups where some groups had little to resources and they had to figure out a way to obtain more resources. For most cases, women are not being dragged from the streets, they are manipulated. American sex traffickers find girls who need attention and feel like they’re alone; they give them the attention that they desire and then reel them in, making the girls believe that they are someone who truly cares for them. The average female victim of sex trafficking is 12-14 years old and this is probably due to the fact that little girls are easier to manipulate. These girls who are manipulated into the business are most likely experiencing problems at home or/and in school, and would take any means of escaping their reality. We need to ensure that every child that goes to school is well off at home and that they are comfortable being in school. Of course this is easier said than done and there are hundreds of factors that go into creating comfortable home for a child to grow in.
