Explain How Temperature Affects The Elasticity Of A Rubber Band

Decent Essays
Have you ever wondered why your rubber band broke? Or have you ever found a rubber band in the hot sun and asked yourself why it snaps easier when the band is hot? This happens because the molecule chains break. Temperature affects the elasticity of a rubber band.
Temperature is the measurement of hot or cold. It is also the measurement of how fast molecules are moving. Temperature is important in all fields of natural science, such as physics, geology, chemistry, space science, medicine, and biology, it is also used in our everyday lives. It is measured by a thermometer. Thermometers have a liquid inside of them, when it is hot out the liquid inside the thermometer expands so it goes up and when it’s cold the liquid gets smaller so it goes

When the atoms of the molecules collide, heat energy is produced/released. More atoms colliding, make more energy to release. Therefore, metals are very good conductors of heat. 4. Malleability and Ductility: -Malleable- To be beaten into sheets -Ductile- To be drawn into…

Thermal radiation extends wavelength from the longest infrared rays through appearable light spectrum to the shortest ultraviolet rays. The distribution and intensity of radiant energy within this range. It’s governed by the temperature of emitting surface. The Stefan-Boltzmann Law have the total heat absorbed by a surface, which is proportional to the 4th power of the absolute temperature. The rate of the body where it radiates the thermal radiation relies upon the nature of the…

The experiment was meant to see how temperature through heat and cooling affected the durability and properties of metal. Before two of the paper clips were exposed under heat and cooled down in two separate ways, all three paper clips were bent at ninety degrees until they broke in half. The amount of times in which the two heated paper clips were to be bent were determined by half the amount of times in which the first unheated paper clip was bent before it broke in half. One of the controlled variables for this experiment was the amount of times in which the two heated paper clips were bent at ninety degrees half of the first unheated paper clip. Other controlled variables in this experiment include the intensity and temperature of the heat,…

Temperature change – Temperature change refers to the difference in temperature between two different time periods. In this paper, temperature change of the London Underground is compared between the winter and the summer. The paper states that the temperature of the system fluctuates from 25 degrees Celsius in the winter and 32 degrees Celsius in the summer. Therefore, this means that the average temperature change of the London Underground between winter and summer is 7 degrees Celsius. The primary reason for this difference in temperature is due to the warmer air temperatures in the summer.…

The hot sun beat down on the sand making our protagonists mood change with the sweltering heat and angst crashing against Meursault like waves on the beach. Three aspects affect his mood; temperature, weather, and light. These affect Meursault, but do not necessarily make him a more sympathetic character. His existential crisis makes him less open to the indifference of the world until the end of the novel when he is sentenced to death and finally opens himself up. Temperature affects Meursault in a negative manner, he explains heat as being oppressive and in his mind, justifies the reason his actions occur.…

The rate at which a reaction takes place can be affected by the temperature, the concentration, the particle size, and by using a catalyst but two that really affect the reaction are temperature and concentration of the solute and solvent. The rate of a reaction is determined by the temperature and the concentration which in this case determine how fast or slow the reaction will occur. In both cases something is being increased, for example, placing solutions A and B in the warmed water increases the solution's temperature which causes the particles to collide more frequently due to kinetic molecular theory. By increasing the concentration of the reactants increases the rate of the reaction. (http://chemguide.co.uk/physical/basicrates/concentration.html)…

The trend of our data collected during the experiment was a weak correlation. This is because two variables have increased whereas the other two variables have decreased (Simpson, 2013). As shown in the graph in the results section, it can be seen that the times 20 seconds and 80 seconds are above the trend line and 40 secs and 60 secs are below the trend line. This therefore makes it a weak correlation, as there is no significant trend that can be seen that shows it is a positive trend line.…

They sat at a desk in a cushioned chair with the room at one of two temperatures: hot (about 90 degrees) or cold (about 65 degrees), depending on their condition. In the center of the room was a blow-up doll that would bounce back to the normal condition when punched. The Informed Consent Form was signed first, which indicated that the current study was about aggression.…

For the past decade or so, scientists have been desperately trying to convince the world of the severity of climate change, but people wouldn 't listen. Skeptics claimed that the government was trying to control the population with fear, or that a degree or two didn 't mean that the climate was changing. Despite the painfully obvious evidence, people continued to emit the same amount of toxic greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To understand what climate change is, one must first understand what "climate" is. Simply put, climate is the average weather in a region.…
