Pope Gregory the Great was the one who created Gregorian Chants. They were named after him. It began at the turn of the artistic creativity in Western style music. It was thought that this kind of music was not composed by human, but by that of a divine since the tune would just pop into his mind. These chants were often sung at church services, in the early Renaissance Era.
