Experiencing Humanity in the Modern World Throughout the history of the world, humans have expressed emotions and experiences through many different ways: sculpture, architecture, dance, music, literature, and many more. As these many unique works have been recorded, they have been able to have great impacts on those who have been privileged to witness it. Meher Baba, an Indian mystic, once taught that, “Art is one of the sources through which the soul expresses itself and inspires others.” Art throughout history has defined cultures, helped us understand people and emotions; it has allowed us to see humanity through our own eyes and they eyes of others. It works as a medium of creativity that allows many aspects of cultures around the world to be shown. Since humans have been able, we have used many different tools, such as philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language, to understand and record our world. YouTube is able to provide a way to share the fruits of these tools. YouTube provides a way for the visual arts to be displayed for all the world to see and hear. Music is one the more common forms of art that can be found. Musicians such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis started their careers on the massive sharing site and used it to launch themselves into music industry. Meanwhile, you have musicians such as Peter Hollens, Kurt Hugo Schnieder, and Pentatonix have made YouTube their home having 20 million subscribers combined. Lindsey Sterling combines the arts of music and dance in her work that has been viewed 1,395,124,217 times. Aside from music, one can find channels devoted to creating drawing, paintings, sculptures, and much more. However, the visual arts are not the only form of art to be found on YouTube. Much of the creativity of the liberal art can also be found. Literary works of genius such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring and Edgar Allen Poe’s the Raven can be found on the site. It also provides a channel of communication between the modern creator and the observer. The interaction that is able to take place between the two is such an important part in experiencing art as it allows the viewers to critique the work of the creator but it also allows the two to come closer to each other which allows the viewer to better understand the content and the creator to learn how he/she can impact the viewers. As well as the communication between the creator and the observer, YouTube also has a very dedicated community that comes from the collaboration between creators.
