Part I: Book For this particular assignment, I chose the book “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain by John J. Ratey, M.D. with Eric Hagerman” largely because of the topic discussed, and the way in which this particular book addressed this topic. The studies conducted in this book address the positive benefits of regular exercise, not just on the body in general, but for the mind and the heart as well. Most functions can benefit from routine exercise, and according to Dr. Ratey, there's extensive research, which can verify that the brain benefits from this tremendously. The reason that I relate so strongly to this book and the content are my overall impression of how regular physical exercise has contributed to my work and education, as well as my personal life. The ability to process information and perform to a higher standard is definitely exhibited in my work when I have been able to work out and exert some of the energy I have in other means. (Donatelle, 2005) Furthermore, when exercise is involved, I'm capable of processing more as my overall energy levels feel higher and I have a sense of refreshment from said exercise. According to an article titled, “The exercise effect”, which is featured on their web site, there can be extensive claims made to support the notion that there is a positive effect from exercising, and not only in mental health. (Hardman, 2009) As stated by the author Kristen Weir, “The effects of physical activity extend beyond the short-term.
