Sustainability in American Culture The resources of three planets are needed for everyone on earth to live a American lifestyle. Consumerism in the United States is worst than in other countries because people tend to buy more products than they need and sometimes they buy them because there is new version on the market. A good example is when a new and improved iPhone or Galaxy is in sale, there is a lot of people in line waiting for them to be the first to have it. Consumerism is the ideology that people believe that buying new things makes their lifestyle better. Consumerism is affecting the environment, health, and consumers economics; one way to reduce consumption is sustainability. Sustainability seeks solutions that enable humans to live in harmony with nature in present and future generations and protect the earth from damage and destruction. There are many things people can do to help the environment. Like reduce, recycle and reuse; however, the most important could be reduce. Reduce means stop buying thing that people do not need. When reduce is done there is no recycling or reuse to do in the first place. By August of this year, people are in debt with the planet earth because people already consume what the earth suppose to produce in one year. There is also know that United States need four planets earth to be able to use how much land, sea and other natural resources that are needed to produce what they consume in a year. In contrast, United Arab Emirates need four planets earth. People have to remember that there are other species on earth and that human being is not alone.
