How do I begin to explain the world today? It’s funny, when I consider how advanced American society is, yet at the same time fail to recognize some of our real problems. For example, in the past 15 years, we’ve experienced a rise in the number of mass shootings and gun violence in the United States. From the murders at Fort Hood in 2009, to the tragic murders of 20 school aged children and six adults at Sandy Hook….in the period from 2007-2013, the FBI has documented 16.4 incidents per year. When I ask why this has happened, my first response is we need more gun laws, a unilateral ban on firearms across the United States.…

Crucible synthesis essay During times when fear and stress are present in our lives or we are don’t want to suffer the consequences of a situation we tend to use scapegoating as a method to get out of or avoid the situation. As humans, we seem to always be subconsciously looking for things to scapegoat weather it is for our benefit, their own problems and/or society’s problems as seen in the crucible during the Salem Witch Trials. During the time of the Salem witch trials a scapegoat was used as “a person which takes on the sins of others, or is unfairly blamed for problems”. Although the vast majority of us humans are guilty of scapegoating at some point in our lives and choose to scapegoat the people around us who are different from us,…

In Christianity God endures and therefore shames the scapegoat mechanism. God absorbs the vengeance, or even retaliation, “Jesus moves like a lamb to slaughter” (Isa. 53:7, NIV) the rhythmic repetition of violence is shattered (Severson pg. 1223).” Another thing that Severson says in his book that made an impact on me is when he talks about how as Christians; Christ is our security during times of unrest. This statement has helped me figure out what my responsibility is as a Christian when it comes to the issue of whether or not Christians should join in society’s use of scapegoats.…

Out of fear, blame is often presented to those who come off as an easy target. Taking the easy way out seems a lot simpler then risking oneself pride and status, and this way creates a multitude of problems. Not only is the blame made off of assumptions and past grudges, but oftentimes the accusations are made from a type of deeply felt resentment that boils below. Whether this blame is made based on skin color or reputation, or whether the accusation is made out of a sense of greed and want for more, the scenario is that oftentimes taking the easy way out becomes a much more complicated circumstance.…

As a response to years of domination and human rights movement, the phrase “blaming the victim” was coined by William Ryan in the book he published in 1971 (Schoellkopf,2012). Many people have adopted the phrase including supporters of crime victims, specifically rape victims. In the Old Testament concerning tragic events, various instances of victim blaming can be found considering blaming the victim as sinners (Robinson as cited in Schoellkopf, 2012). Victim blaming is one of the unfortunate consequences of a belief in a just world. According to Schoellkopf (2012), it is an occurrence that has been recently recognized as a dynamic used in maintaining status quo and empowering criminals.…

The government supports the idea that society must live in the present and not to worry or wonder about past or future times. Montag is wanted by the government and cannot be found so “they're sniffing for a scapegoat” to keep the people from thinking about where Montag has really gone. The diction of the word “scapegoat” implies that they do not care about finding Montag himself they are just looking for someone to place blame so the people won't be uneasy and pondering ideas of what is really happening. They would rather take an innocent person than have society thinking of what might happen in the future if they do not find Montag. They lead people to believe everything is under control to keep them thinking mindlessly and as a whole…

A conspiracy is a plan by a group of people to do something illegal. Each person of the group contributes to the proposed criminal act. I believe that all conspirators should be held equally liable for the acts of each member of the conspiracy. It doesn’t matter if someone had a large part in the crime, or small part, everyone should be held equally liable because each action contributed to the totality of the crime (Spencer, 2005). For example, if a group of men robbed a bank, and one guy job was to shut off the security cameras, then I still believe he should be equally liable for the acts of each member of the conspiracy because that one little task was still helpful achieving the overall success of the crime.…

Macbeth Reflection Macbeth, one of the most tragic plays written by William Shakespeare is a work of art still researched by many professors. Throughout the play, there are many elements portrayed to the audience and we have decided to use a particular theme of scapegoating. As it starts off, the evidence which leads to Macbeth’s involvement in the death of Duncan is publicized and there will be an interview to decide for the impeachment of Macbeth or an election of a new president. The two candidates, Macduff and Malcolm, seems to remain mutual with each other, as they have worked together in the play but they will both turn against Macbeth. Macbeth has now become the scapegoat of the play and later on, Macduff will also blame Malcolm.…
