Since Disney’s inception in the 1920s, racism has been scattered throughout its films (VH1). Historically speaking, many movies such as Pocahontas, Peter Pan, and Dumbo, are full of subtle racist imagery that requires close examination in order to see it fully plain. In Pocahontas and Peter Pan, the Native Americans are portrayed as being violent, savage, and pagan beings, for example, the songs Savages and What Makes the Red Man Red (VH1; Laskow). Often times, the word sex wispily appears in the smoke, magic, or wind. To see it clearly, however, the movie needs to be paused at the right spot at the right time. Even paused at the right spot, it takes a close eye screening to see it. One of the well known examples of Disney’s phallic obsession is the original 1989 The Little Mermaid cover; one of the towers of King Triton's castle is shaped like male genitalia (Samuel M). The Rescuers and in The Lion King contain full pictures of naked women in hidden places (Samuel M). These sexual images are not appropriate for the young children who are viewing it. Disney exposes them to these atrocities subtly so they will not be caught and labeled
