Personality Traits Even though the series falls under the genre of fantasy, its popularity may be due to J.K. Rowling’s ability to create such realistic and relatable characters in spite of their fantastical surroundings. The characters throughout the Harry Potter series are very engaging because they are able to remind us of ourselves or someone we know. We have all had a teacher or boss who reminds of Dolores Umbridge; or how about a friend who could be a bit of a know-it-all like Hermione Granger; or perhaps seeing ourselves in the pleasant oddball that Luna Lovegood is.
