In the first paragraph, Kennedy used a lot of parallelism to strengthen the grand momentum and the tone. Parallelism means that using the several identical types or forms of sentences or words to describe and speak. For example, “a victory of party and a celebration of freedom; an end and a beginning.” The writer used these parallel words to make his opinion more clear and impressive. For his audiences, Kennedy’s parallelism made them easily convince him and understand him better. In addition, in the next several paragraph, Kennedy started writing the paragraph with the same sentences styles. Kennedy wanted to contrast the civilians and the power of hope to show the difference to the past, and then to show his audiences the power and importance of religion. As a result, the word “mortal” helped Kennedy to distinguish the two substances he wanted to compare clearly and highlight the inconformity of them and his audiences would have a better understanding of what Kennedy was talking about.
