Social media has been an interesting topic in our society. Many people are using social media for multiple purposes, but what they don’t know is that it is not a reliable source. Facebook for example places misinformation with false statistics, providing many others with inaccurate information. Other people along with organization are leading the general public with false information, which could lead to bias decisions made by the publisher. Some publishers would then be held accountable for misleading the public with incorrect information, but many others would escape prosecute. Many people are getting drawn by false information due to the fact that information can travel to one another at the speed of light. …show more content…
Coming to realization from my critical thinking class, my professor had told me that people who made the post are hoaxes, to earn an income whenever a person likes and share their post, meaning they lied to me to earn money. This also made me realize that whomever had seen my post has also seen me lie to them not knowing if the post was accurate or not. The post was just one person’s hoax about winning the lottery and there were tons of misinformation very similar to the one I had shared. My example about how I had mistakenly like and shared, is a great example of misinformation about how I had led someone else into a bad outcome. I couldn 't imagine how many people out of the millions are sharing the wrong information to the community. Since Facebook has changed about how we view things in a certain perspective, it is unsure to myself and many others of believe what is right, and what is wrong.
In conclusion, to prevent and protect the community from misinformation, I highly recommend people to double check the information they receive before passing it on to other people. Although some information provides statistics it does not always mean the information provided is true without further information or credible sources you can’t be so sure. If everyone is able to help prevent misinformation from spreading globally, it may potentially prevent people around us from being harmed by the material provided with cyber bullying, hoaxes and unreliable
