Does a prized possession need love? Does it need meaning or can it be a sign that will lead someone to a new journey? The wind chime is one of those keepsakes to cherish. The treasured wind chime meant a lot to a specific character. Grandmama's (an elderly woman who originated from a small village in Southern Canton, China, and migrated with her family to Canada) soul clenched onto it.…
An old globe that has a few dents from all the falls in its past. They are treasures waiting to be discovered. . . hopefully by me. But…
I chose to write about the book, The Glass Castle, written by Jeannette Walls. This book or memoir was quite alarming in that it tells the horrific stories of child abuse, abject poverty to eventually Jeannette and her siblings becoming successful with healthy families and relationships of their own. The Walls family that was constantly on the move led by mentally ill mother (Rose Mary) and an alcoholic father (Rex). The memoir starts outs with Jeannette seeing her mother crawling through a dumpster looking for food.…
THE VALUE OF GODLY PARENTS Of all the possessions you own, what is the most valuable thing you hope to pass down to your children? Family heirlooms are special, but how many individuals would be willing to trade all they ever inherited from their parents for the chance to speak to them just one more time? Patrick Henry is famous for his statement, “give me liberty me death,” in response to British tyranny that sparked the Revolutionary War. What many do not know is that near the end of his life, he made another statement of greater significance: “‘I have now disposed of all my property to my family. There is one thing more I wish I could give them, and that is the Christian religion.…

Heather Malosky The cultural artifact that I chose was my lacrosse stick. It represents how lacrosse has been a continuous occupation throughout my life. Pain can be as simple as a paper cut or a bleeding scar, but at the same time it is the monster that eats an individual up inside, keeping them up at night and asking them questions that they wish they only knew the answers to. It questions their every decision and thought similar to a nagging mother paired with an untidy room. There are multiple aspects of pain both physical and emotional that each has their own distinctive impacts on an individual’s life. The pain associated with the loss of someone significant is the worst of all; the feeling of emptiness in an individual’s hands when they try to hold onto them for a moment longer as they slip through their fingers is unlike any other. In Gift Shop – (For Gord), Shane Koyczan wants the reader…

Parents Everyone has a symbol of what they want or need in life, and how it has come to symbolize everything that they want, as well as what it represents, in that hand my symbol and something that means so much to me will have to be my parents. To me my parents represent happiness, protection, and ambition. Parents in general are the closest human beings that we will ever have. Parents don’t just love and care for us just because we are intelligent, or have a nice haircut, but because we are what we are- their children. To me, my parents represent love.…
