The Real Experiment Everyday we see different places, different people, and different situations. It is their factors, similarities, or differences that change different settings. I have recently switched campuses from Flint to Owosso and was surprised by the similarities and differences they both offered. For this experiment, comparing campuses would be a perfect candidate. The norms, deviance, social movements, and social control of the campuses.…
In other words, it was important to focus on approaches that was educative to client change which led to the emphasis of viewing the social worker as a skillful teacher with social approaches to develop and reform (Murdach, 2011). The social work’s mission includes all levels, yet, the historical divide regarding the different level of micro, mezzo, and macro practice still exist (Hill, Ferguson, & Erickson, 2010). To me to intervene in practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities means social workers know about evidence-based interventions to help achieve the goals of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities they work with. Social workers understand the theories from all course work and critically evaluate and apply what we know to successfully help clients meet their goals. We realize that inter-professional and interdisciplinary collaboration is important to helping clients. We use what we understand about human behavior, person-in-environment and theoretical framework with our clients. We advocate and mediate with and for clients to ensure goals are met.…
The NASW Code of Ethics states, “Social workers pursue social change, particularly with and on behalf of vulnerable and oppressed individuals and groups of people. Social workers' social change efforts are focused primarily on issues of poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and other forms of social injustice. These activities seek to promote sensitivity to and knowledge about oppression and cultural and ethnic diversity. Social workers strive to ensure access to needed information, services, and resources; equality of opportunity; and meaningful participation in decision making for all people” (NASW, 2017). Macro level social work empowers clients by involving them in systemic change, rather than personalized aid.…

The main three grand philosophies that are associated with the theories of Social Work are; structuralism, modernism and post-conventionalism. These grand theories are not just used for Social Work, many other professions practice them too. These philosophies are used all around us in today’s day and age, people can see a product of this from a photo, song, website, building, or from pieces of art. The theory of Post-Conventionalism is all about knowing that there are many answers to a certain question not just one because it is impossible. The point of this grand theory is to always have a person doubt everything they understand about a certain aspect of something because there are always more than one perspective on anything in this new…
As I have learned throughout my time as a social work student at Carleton University, I have become familiar with the generalist perspective of social work practice. My understanding of the general perspective stipulates, that it is better for a social worker to have a strong understanding of multiple theories and ways of practice, rather than being proficient in solely one theory or practice. This is directly related to the changes that have occurred at my placement, I have luckily been able to learn from two supervisors. Therefore, I was able to develop 2 distinct practices, which were influenced by my first supervisor Hadiya, and my second supervisor Caitlin. Both of the practices that I have learned were developed by watching how both of my supervisors respond to different experiences, as well as their interaction patterns with the residents of Harmony House.…
Being a social worker is often a challenging, yet rewarding career. Social workers are responsible for helping individuals, families, and groups of people to cope with problems they’re facing to improve their patients’ lives. Social workers are also trained caseworkers in social service agencies who perform several functions which they use different components of the practice framework, the theoretical underpinnings to in order to build helping relationships. After interviewing a caseworker in a specific social agency there were advantages and disadvantages of methods along with challenges encountered in working in that specific agency. With all of these the functions, roles and responsibilities of a caseworker is what helps any agency to uphold…
It is also important for social workers to develop and implement their specific skill sets to address the problems that are unique to both communities, especially in small-town environments in order to empower and advocate for vulnerable individuals. After all, our primary goals as social workers is to address social problems and enhance an individual’s well-being whereas advanced generalist practice aims to assist individuals in doing so (NASW,…
