There was plenty of examples of foreshadowing where you could tell what was going to happen next. Foreshadowing is used to suggest an upcoming outcome to the story. For one example Montresor describes, “From the fourth the bones had been thrown down, and lay promiscuously upon the Earth…” (377). This hints how the feeling in the room was raised to a death presence and will lead to Fortunato's demise. Towards the end Montresor notified, “... Suspense is the intense feeling that the reader gets in waiting for an event to happen. Montresor described, “throwing the links about his waist, it was but the work of a few seconds to secure it,”(378). This is one example of when suspense was used well in this story because it heightened the reader's attention and curiosity during this frightening moment. Another example was when Montresor says, “I forced the last stone into its position; I plastered it up,” (379). From this example Montresor was decribing how he was putting the last stone into its postion. Montresor hesitated at first, but with no regret Montresor buried a man alive! Examples such as these make the stor more interesting and grabs the reader
