Lion’s Courage and Dorothy’s Love All around the world acts of courage and love are shown everyday. Having courage is being able to do something that scares you. Everyday we are faced with an obstacle that might scare us, but we use our courage to overcome it. Love shows how much you care for someone. Every day people show love for each other. Whether it’s a simple “love you” from your parents before school or “have a great day”. In The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum, the Lion showed courage by overcoming his fears and Dorothy showed love by caring for her friends and family.

For instance, whenever the Tin Woodman started to cry, Dorothy was always there to help. For instance, “Dorothy had to wipe every tear carefully from his face with her apron, so his joints would not be rusted.” This example demonstrated how much Dorothy loved the Tin Woodman because she was always there for him. Whether it was something as small as making sure his joints wouldn’t rust or as big as taking him to get a heart from Oz. Dorothy truly loved and cared about him. Furthermore, Dorothy also loved Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Throughout the whole book all she wanted was to go home and see them. That was one of the main reasons for her whole journey to Oz. Everyone knows the famous quote “there is no place like home”. Even though Kansas is a very dreary place, it’s where the people Dorothy loved and cared about were. That’s what made it so special to her and that’s why all she wanted to do was go home. One final way Dorothy demonstrated love was when she had to say goodbye to her friends. Dorothy was distraught and “found she was crying herself at this sorrowful parting from her loving comrades”. This quote strongly demonstrated Dorothy’s love for her friends because it shows how sad Dorothy was to leave her friends behind. Throughout her whole journey they had been by her side always
