Examples Of Cosmopolitanism

Decent Essays
When I start writing to you, a myriad of thoughts and ideas linger in my mind. There is an atmosphere of anticipation around Peperdine University. Fully expecting, I welcome both the newly-met people, and the forthcoming university life.
My vision of cosmopolitanism was expanded after traveling around the world. I come from China, yet from California too. Three-year independent living experience abroad affirmed my independence. With a knowledge-desired attitude, good self-care and strong morality, I believe I’ll be a good roommate for you.
I’ve been imagining how our daily life would be. I remember my old roommate who liked to get up late; I worried about her health because she was too busy to have her breakfast. At that time, as her friend,

Nichols paints the recruitment process as a frivolous experience meant to cater to a student’s every need. Nichols claims “Colleges now are marketed like multiyear vacation packages, rather a contract with an institution and its faculty for a course of educational study.” (72). This is unsound inductive reasoning on Nichols part. He does not offer sufficient evidence other than his own word or a few sporadic campus activities, very exclusive to the individual universities.…

Western idea usually means an idea originally from and developed in the Western culture. A Western idea can concern various things, such as politics, philosophy, science, and art. Definition of the West is not simple. The West sometimes thought as European countries and their colonies, so for example, the United States, Canada, and Australia are also regarded as the West. Although Australia has a history that had an experience of colonisation by the British, Australia also has experienced its own development in and engagement with the world.…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

Adults rising early, dressing in fancy business attire and uniforms running from room to room, wake the children, pack the lunches, make the usual coffee and smoothie breakfast from the latest kitchen gadgets, start the car, check the gas, and prepare for the busy day ahead. School children awaiting their scheduled bus arrivals while glancing at cell phones or listening to loud music through ear phones while cars rush by, each with their own specific destinations and goals set for the day. Cell phones ring with newsfeed updates, alarms, and calls from relatives that haven’t been seen or heard from in months. Occasionally, when I need to clear my head from the days that seem to rush away on me, I regather myself by hopping in the truck and setting…

Since the construction of race and stratification among peoples, there has been a prevalent notion of collectivism within the many different ethnic groups of the world. More so than others, there is an ongoing emphasis on collective responsibility among people of the African Diaspora. Collective responsibility embodies the ideal that each human being on the planet is the responsibility of another. In philosophy, the representation of this ideal is most commonly associated with the philosophical tradition known as Cosmopolitanism. Since its inception, philosophers have established varying ideas of what Cosmopolitanism is, and how it is applicable to real-world situations.…

    Chipotle Bowl Thesis

I am searching for a campus of brash, tenacious peers who will not set down their sole burrito bowls in defeat, but peers who will eat two, three—as many as humanly possible in the name of Chipotle—and challenge me as well! These are not students who listlessly prod at the same meal every day. Instead, they toss in unthinkable ingredients to create a fresh, unique twist, savoring each tiny bite of their education. Determination, persistence, innovation—these are all values I wish to contribute to UChicago’s student body. To immerse one’s self in intellectual vitality and pursue the “life of the mind” is similar to appreciating Chipotle for its magnanimous beauty…to learn, to enlighten rather than to capitalize is a unique tenet of UChicago that I can find nowhere else.…

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe tells the story of the struggle between a split African tribe, the nobleman and the outcast. As the title implies the struggle only goes downhill. In one chapter the church members struggle to accept the outcast, the osu. When one applies Kwame Anthony Appiah’s idea of conversations between cultures in the Cosmopolitanism to the Umuofia people joining the culture of the Church in Things Fall apart, the converts would be more accepting. However, the congregation should have been more cosmopolitan if in fact they had listen to missionary Mr. Kiaga, who argued the osu could join.…

Saint Peter’s University is my home. Through the relationships I’ve losted and gained, the knowledge I’ve absorbed and events I’ve experienced, I can truly say that college is a handful of joy and pain. Last year, as an incoming freshman, the fear of being in college was stronger than my excitement. I was terrified and coming from my background: 1st generation college student with a single mother of four and barely any money to our family, I felt the pressure. Sabin was my O-Team Leader during my summer orientation and I will never forget his suave demeanour.…
