In the Novel “Animal Farm” there are many examples of allegory. Just to name a few, the pigs represent the people in power, the horse, boxer represents the working class, Old Major’s dream symbolizes the Communist Manifesto and Squealer represents Propaganda. Some of the rhetorical components of this allegory are Pathos; an appeal to emotion, Ethos; is use of character to persuade, Logos; is the use of logic to convince and one primary rhetorical literary device Old Major uses is that of repetition. The ducks were always chanting “4 legs good, 2 legs bad.” When thinking about the way an author chooses whether to use allegory instead of just laying it out as a non-fictional account you see through humor and parallelism, we realize the absurdity
