In the novel Romeo and Juliet, Willam Shakespeare displays many characters that fear of alienation which drives their actions Romeo displays fear of alienation. Romeo and Juliet fell in love at the party the Capulets had which then invited the Montageus to. Romeo is a Montague. He is "son to Montague."(2) Juliet's family and Romeo's family are enemies, "I must love a loathed enemy." (13) Love leads Romeo into making actions that will help his relationship with Juliet. Juliet is Romeo's wife and he is willing to do anything that will make Juliet happy "I'll be a candle holder,"(10) and safe. Romeo wants to be comfortable in Juliet's environment. (9) Juliet wants to get married, but not to Paris, she is already married to Romeo and loves him very much. Juliet "dreams not of" anymore, because she does not want to marry Paris. Lady Capulet does not support her daughters wishes and dreams. She wishes for her daughter to marry Paris whom she thinks is "a young and noble gentleman."(31) Juliet does not want to marry at this age.
