“A person’s thinking or behavior is classified as abnormal if it violates the rule of what is expected or acceptable behavior in a particular social group.” This is called a norm violation. Some people commit a norm violation without even knowing it while some do it on purpose to get you uncomfortable or to invade your space. “The violation of social norms may result from multiply factors and an appropriate theory for such behavior may have to employ an integrated or multi causal model.”[McCaghy, Charles H.1985] Society and culture are most important to norms because they comfort to folkways, mores, values, norms, and sanction. In this paper, I will be discussing two observations I’ve witness and one norm violation I committed.

I had went because I was doing some shopping for my daughter first birthday party supplies. It was my mom and I we were you know just shopping minding our own business getting what I needed to get and I turned around and I saw this little boy right hand tied to the mom shopping cart like a little puppy would be. I told my mom and both of our reaction were like is this mom seriously doing that? Like why not just sit him in the cart seater? There was nothing right there. I saw one guy reaction he was just starring frozen with his eyes wide open like does anyone else see this? I was surprised. This norm would be like a punishment type of violation. Society and culture as I said in the beginning comfort together because there definitions are simpler. That is folkways, mores, values, norms, and sanction. Folkways is the traditional behavior or way of life of a particular community or group of people. Mores is the essential and characteristics custom or conventions of a community. Values is a person’s standard of behavior or one’s judgement of what is important in life. Norms is something that is usual, typical or standard.
