Examiner's Hair Differences In Criminal Investigations

The following data has been collected in a series of labs that have been completed over the past two weeks. These labs are to let the examiner gain more knowledge on the topic of hair structures. The examiner will also be able to really see what hair actually looks like outside of the collective hair on top of their head. In these experiments, the class did examine other examiner's hairs to compare them to their own hair making it easy to see the difference in the hair and how it may help in a criminal investigation.The examiners were also able to look at animal hair and be able to see the structure of theirs and how they differ from human hair. For the beginning of this experiment, the examiner started with examining their own hair. By doing this the examiner was able to measure the structure of their hair and seeing things like the medulla what you would not be able to see without a microscope. the examiner starts off with the lowest resolution of the microscope and fully works up to a high resolution so that it will be clear and easy to see really close up what the hell really does look like and if it is transparent. after the examination of the examiners, …show more content…
They examine different breed of dog hairs such as German Shepherd, Pit Bulls, and Pomeranians. Each dog had different characteristics with their hair i.e. some were long, some were short, and some shafts were more frayed while others were smooth. The examiners were able to tell the difference even in the follicle of each different dog. The noticeable difference with the cat was that it was easier to see the layers of the shaft. It seems to look like layers of skin that are ready to peel away. When comparing the cat hair to the dog hair, the dog’s hair seems to be dark and shows less noticeable characteristics, whereas the cat hair shows that while they are dark they show more noticeable characteristics than the
