My proposed research topic is: To what extent are Christian educators using evidence-based teaching practices. The limited research I've completed indicates that special education teachers in the US are not always using evidence-based practices (Cook & Cook, 2013). I want to address this question from a Christian perspective and write about it in a Christian education journal. Our textbook suggested that educators have a moral imperative to use evidence-based learning (Gall, Gall,& Borg, 2015). I feel that Christian educators have an even stronger moral imperative based on Scriptural principles. Luke 14:31 (New International Version) says that when a king is going to war he should first analyze his situation and determine if his resources …show more content…
I want to argue that Scripture calls us to make use of the wisdom and counsel of others in order to make wise decisions (Proverbs 20:18). Well conducted research can parallel the wise counsel that Proverbs 20:18 suggests a king should seek before going to war. Therefore, Christian educators should always seek wisdom acquired through research and determine its applicability to their classroom.
SCRIP
Social Responsibility - Teachers have a responsibility to ensure that all students are provided the opportunity to learn. This means that instruction must be based on what works best for the individual student and not what works best for the teacher. Therefore, instruction for special education student may look very different from instruction for general education students. This is the case even when both groups are in the same classroom.
Committment - Must be committed to teaching students everything that they need to know for that grade or subject. This means using my workday wisely by taking extra moments to research how to best meet the needs of students and planning ways to apply that
