Los Angeles Valley College’s ADN program follows multiple models to outline their model for their registered nursing program. One of these models is QSEN which stands for Quality Safety Education for Nurses and focuses on; Patient Centered-Care, Teamwork and Collaboration, Evidence- Based Practice, Quality Improvement, Safety and Informatics to guide the utilization of knowledge, skill and attitude. Evidence based practice in nursing care is a concept that has been applied to nursing practice for the past two decades. Evidence based medicine is defined as, “the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The practice of evidence-based medicine means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external evidence with systematic research.” Evidence …show more content…
Patient safety which is another concept in a QSEN model of nursing is greatly influenced by the implementation of evidence based practice. Favorable patient outcomes and health care costs are improved following an evidence based model of medicine. As a growing and aging population is part of the future following these concepts will continue to grow in importance due to an increase in those seeking medical care. Rising medical costs may be greatly reduced with medical care being provided in an efficient, evidence based manner that utilizes resources appropriately. When using evidence based care along with patient centered care and a positive environment we have improved patient outcomes. Establishing competencies in medical settings allows providers to provide valuable, efficient, affordable care. “Articles published in medical, nursing and other research journals were the least frequently used sources of information”, as this continues those in the medical field are unable to provide care that that provides the most benefit to the
