Eulogy For Father

Improved Essays
About two decades ago, you held me in a half-nelson and dragged me to your home to teach me some manners. I had wanted blue suede shoes so badly that I had tried to snatch your purse. You told me to never steal again, and gave me ten dollars to buy the shoes I wanted so badly. I should have contacted you sooner, because I needed to give you a proper thank you.

Shortly after you let me leave your house, I went to the nearest shoe store, and bought the shoes. Not long after I grew out of them, I had completely forgotten about you, and what you taught me. However, a couple days ago, I recalled what you said. My family had been having a rough time because I had just lost my job, and my wife had been gone for two years, after a deadly car crash.

Something that seems absolutely mundane to the average person, was utterly fascinating for me at the age of eight: shoes. However I wasn’t interested by just any regular shoes. I was only interested in my mother’s shoes. I vividly remember my mother leaving one day for work and me sneaking into her closet to try on her various shoes. She had a small rack full of sandals and heels, all of which I was mesmerized by.…

Beloved congregation, good morning and a warm welcome to everyone here today. I would like to begin this service by deeply thanking every single one of you for coming to pay tribute to my most special son, Edgar Sawtelle. Losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare, especially when that child made such a huge impact in an unbelievably short amount of time in every single being’s life that he encountered, whether that life belonged to a human or animal. Edgar had so much more to give with an overpowering confidence and the potential needed to make a difference in this cruel world. Now, standing here in front of you all, it is undeniably hard for me to put into words the overwhelming grief that I am feeling, as my worst nightmare has devastatingly come true.…

The morning of Saturday November 1st, 2014, I woke up to three hundred text messages and twitter notifications all notifying me that my friend, Dominik Pettey, was killed in a car crash by a drunk driver the previous night. No pain had ever felt so significant, it was crippling, but then instead of pain, I was numbed by the inability to grasp that my friend someone who I just had seen the night before, was gone. I ran the words “Dom is dead” through my head on a loop but could not bring myself to accept it. That week, although I was still here, facing such a tragedy, everything on earth seemed so insignificant, going to class, homework, midterms, everything. I woke up every morning wishing it was just in a bad dream and that noise would never cease because that is when it hit me the most, silence, when I didn't hear Dom’s infectious laugh or when he wasn't telling me that, “I am Kiera Wainer and deserve the best God can give”, which he used to say anytime I was upset, the first time he said those words was the second worst day of my entire life, it was the day my dad left for his new family.…

Sorry if the email bothers you, I just want to share what has been on my mind, and you can read the words whenever you are willing to. I am sorry that when the incident happened on Monday, I was not emotionally prepared at all, so I could not focus on anything else besides my feelings of being confused, conflicted and hurt. I feel bad that I called you 20 minutes before your politics class, because I wanted to figure things out, but you also have a life besides the drama. I could have waited to collect all the information, then have a conversation with you.…

Eulogy It never occurred to me that I would be up here so soon, talking about my Grandmother, Joyce White instead of celebrating her birthday with her and talking about the good old times when I was a little girl. I remembered my Grandmother as a beautiful lady with long black dark hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. She was not your typical grandma who baked cookies, stay in the house all day and knit sweaters, she was a woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. I used to remember when I was a little girl, I would love when my grandma comb my hair, she would plait my hair and when she is done, I would say to her, “Mama do not forget to fix my baby hair at the front with the brush,” she would smile and say “yes Kay, I did not forget.” She was a…

Spending tons of time at my grandmother’s house in my middle to high school years is something I remember so fondly. Either sitting next to my grandma or in the kitchen concocting up some dessert is normally what that time consisted of. I was always afraid to under or over bake something that when the timer went off I would rush the pan or whatever it was holding the dessert over to her to check, or she would get up with me to check it. We wasted the day away in that kitchen making jalapeño poppers and have random conversations during the process. That was the time when my Grandpa would be out doing some handy work in his shed, so it was the perfect time to tell Grandma all my darkest secrets.…
