Every day technology is evolving and new techniques are being invented. Some states require physical therapists to continue their education in order to keep their license (“Physical Therapist”). It is important for physical therapists to continue their education, so they can keep abreast of their occupation. Physical therapy education is focused around a set of expected outcomes (Curtis “A Primer” 38). Physical therapists must have 24 contact hours or 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU) to be accrued during the licensing period. All therapists are required to submit two hours of board-approved programs in ethics professional responsibility as part of their continuing education requirements each licensure period (“Continuing”). Although most physical therapists work full time, a physical therapist that works at a nursing home full time may get paid more than a physical therapist that works at a privately owned physical therapy clinic. The population of an area also can affect how much a physical therapist gets paid. In 2012, an average of $38.39 per hour is what a physical therapist got paid (“Physical Therapist”). The outlook for a physical therapist is higher than average (“Physical Therapists” 117). In 2012, the employment of physical therapists was projected to grow 36% from 2012 to 2002, much faster than the average for all occupations. Since the incidence of patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity is growing, more physical therapists are needed to help the patients maintain their mobility and manage the effects of chronic conditions. The advances in medical technology have increased the use of outpatient surgery to treat a numberless amount of injuries and illnesses. “Physical therapists will continue to play an important role in helping these patients recover more quickly from surgery” (“Physical Therapist”). The baby boomers play a major role in the strong physical therapy outlook. Older people are more likely to require rehabilitative physical therapy services. The elderly is more likely to have heart attacks, strokes, and mobility injuries (“Physical Therapist”). With the help of occupational therapists, physical therapists do not have to complete the rehabilitation process of a patient
