Ethical Challenges of Being an Anthropologist Anthropology. This word means the study of people and how they interact within their own culture. You will typically find an anthropologist out in the field work completing studies and ethnographies on a group of individuals that are unknown. Through these studies, one may come upon several different personalities of individuals or widely different opinions that may be different then your own. Some of these issues can be ethical issues. Everyone will have a different way of dealing with these issues. By understanding some types of issues that may arise through the field work and how to resolve some of these issues that can lead to less of a problem. They express their concern of their being an issue to the individual and they then resolve it from there. We really don’t see a lot of this within the ethnographies. I would like to have seen more of these conversations throughout some of the books that we read this semester. For the future and how to decline having ethical issues arise, I feel that is something that is hard for an anthropologist to not have to deal with. I feel in any situation or area that you end up studying in, you are always going to come across some type of ethical issue. Looking back to the ethnography that I completed with Aly, we even had our own ethical issues. Going into the project, I did not see this one as having issues, but we did have a few. To sum it up, anthropologist I feel know what to do and how to handle ethical issues when they come up in their studies. This is something that I feel like comes with experience.
