In my opinion this permanent birth control has many positives and the effectiveness rate is pretty good and decent. I will definitely inform patients about this option if so they ask me, and advise them to talk to the doctor if they are sure about their decision and want more information about it. I wouldn’t have the procedure done because I’d prefer a different method. Such as the tubal ligation that is being proven to be more effective than Essure inserts.
With this procedure a complete patient teaching and detailed information is a must, patients need to know if Essure is right for them and fits their decision and desired future, furthermore that they need to be aware that there is a waiting period after the birth control is inserted, that this procedure is newer than other permanent birth control methods as well. Remember to inform patients about adverse reactions and risks as they should be aware of them before the procedure is done. (fda doc, 2014) This birth control is approved by the
