A much debated question about Romeo and Juliet is why they died. There are many answers you could answer for this question, but if you look at the text there is one constant when trouble is going on. Who is ultimately responsible for Romeo & Juliet’s deaths? The answer is the families of Romeo and Juliet. They always were at each other’s throats, and their angered always went out on Romeo, Juliet, or both at the same time. Montague and Lord Capulet just made Romeo and Juliet’s life miserable and unbearable. Montague and Lord Capulet had a feud stemming many, many years before Romeo and Juliet knew what life was. The play was started off with both men fighting and exchanging insults, and this just sets the mood for what the story is going to be. The Montagues were very volatile and started fights where ever they saw someone that they did not like. Together those to families pushed Juliet and Romeo to keep the secret and ultimately kill themselves. It is sad that Romeo and Juliet did not feel comfortable enough to approach their parents and tell them what was going on. This pushed them to have to sneak out and see each other through windows or from a great distance. The Capulets wanted Juliet to marry a man she had never met, and they would be married the next day. Lord Capulet and Montague fought all the time which prompted the Tybalt and Romeo fight. The saddest of all was that they were ashamed of the name and both were going change it.
