The Traditional School Calendar Can Continue to Work in the Future
Robin Lockett Carter contributed numerous research reports while a graduate student at the University of Alabama. Carter strongly believes that the year-round schooling system is not correlated to performance of students, because an individual’s academic achievement depends on him/herself and the environment. This article argues the setbacks of changing to a year-round system and how there is no consistent data to support the benefits it claims to bring. The article is interesting because it presents the idea that it would not be sensible to implement such a costly system when it has not been consistently proven to be effective.
Year-Round Schooling Offers Benefits Over a Traditional Calendar
Carolyn Kneese is a former associate professor who had instructed educational administration at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Charles Ballinger is the executive director of the National Association for Year-Round Education. Naylor concludes from his research in this publication that year-round schooling has the potential to save money but may not do so in reality. In addition, he expresses that it may appear to be cost-effective due to factors such as postponing maintenance spending upon implementing the new calendar, which is only reducing costs in the short term. Though it is based off of findings and mainly presents information for readers to consider, this article leans towards countering year-round education by revealing the costs of the system which possibly overweighs its limited cost
