Mexican Mosaic tells the history of Mexico from the Spanish conquest in 1519 to the mid-2000s. The Author, Dr. Jürgen Buchenau, demonstrates Mexico’s position in the global community, the negotiations of power that happened within Mexico, and the social environment in Mexico. Mexican Mosaic is like many other history books in that it presents many. The Plan de San Diego Revolt was an occasion in the historical backdrop of south Texas that has for quite some time been known to students of history of Mexico and of the Mexican Revolution. Named for the Texas town where it was declared, the Plan called for Tejanos to ascend, reclaim Texas from the Anglos, and return it to Mexico . Benjamin Heber Johnson review, Revolution in Texas, approaches the Plan de San Diego Revolt from a totally alternate point of view. This is on account of, in his view, the brutality of 1914 and 1915 along the lower Rio Grande was really the appearance of more profound, more significant statistic and financial changes in the locale. These progressions agitate the predominant racial, social, political, and financial…

The Wind That Swept Mexico, by Anita Brenner, is a very intriguing piece that draws attention to the reader through it’s clear description of the revolution and what occurred after it was over. Originally published in 1943 by the Texas Press, Brenner’s piece was known as one of the first to present many different phases of the revolution. Brenner was born in Mexico and lived there for many years. She used to write dispatches for Spain during the Spanish Civil War and edit “Mexico This Month’s” magazines, which probably influenced her more to write about an event as big as the revolution. Mexico’s well-known rulers from the north and south, Madero, Porfirio Diaz, Villa, Zapata have played an important role in these key phases of the revolution.…

The road to Mexico’s Independence was a challenging journey for Mexicans, it was also a time of great economic impact for the Spaniards but for others, it was a time filled with hard labor and disparity. The demise of the Aztec Empire done by Hernan Cortes and the Spaniard Army brought Mexico into a “new era.” The Spaniard takeover made many Spaniards rich and turned the economy in their favor but it also created new societies that would define where and how ones life would be. The new societies were not always a great thing for the Spaniards when it would cause trouble in who had more power than others. But the biggest downfall for the Spaniards was the political crises than cost them their power in Mexico, or New Spain, as it…

There is the ongoing struggle in finding a peaceful moment in his life, but the weight of the crumbling environment, his conscious struggle with accepting his illness and his broken dreams cause him to waste away his life. His mindset reflects the business and the chaos that can be found in the urban life of the North. “Beehive” is another poem that compares the city to a beehive, which represents the city filled with people, activity and temptation. There are two types of bees, the bees that “pass in and out the moon” and the “silver bees intently buzzing”. The bees that seem to just pass by in and out are represented by the African American community, where they are not given the chance to be part of society.…

However, despite the negatives, this became one of the first times Latin America saw stability post-independence, even though “the developed world remained a few crucial steps ahead. Mexican infrastructure was still in great need of improvement, and port facilities were high on the list of priorities” (page 229). Lack of local ownership and government created resentment within Lain America that led to the Mexican Revolution beginning in 1910 (page…

The short extract from ‘Smoke, lilies and Jade’ by Richard Bruce Nugent is from a Bildungsroman play foretelling the plight of Alex - a 19-year-old, black, male facing internal conflicts and confusion in regards to his sexuality. Therefore, taking this context into consideration, the extract naturally issues an underlying, thematic patterning of fragmentation, uncertainty, and tension. From a close reading, these themes spill out through the content, the form, as well as the diction. In more specific terms, it is achieved through literary and stylistic devices in the following ways; an abstract stream of consciousness disfigured shifts between time and setting, the disparity between an exterior and interior dialogue, and finally, the rebellious…

His mouth was dry and he simply could not spit at the painting. Confused and curious, Tom then took a piece of the smile of the Mona Lisa and held it close to him. What is ironic is that one of the men in the line stated that in order to reconstruct and produce a civilization, they needed someone with an imagination and with a heart to do so. I believe the leader for creating a new limited civilization of peace could be Tom. Tom is one of the lesser people that are the disbelievers of hatred towards the past than the…
