Essay On The Three Branches Of Government

The Constitution is the basis of all government in the United States as of today. It provides the base structure for the system of checks and balances. The system of checks and balances was created so that no one part of the government or no one person can become too powerful. The Separation of Powers, as the three branches of government are called, consist of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The legislative branch consist of two houses of congress, these two houses are the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 100 senators, with two from each state, and the House of Representatives has a total of 435 seats with each state being represented by its population. The main duty of the legislative branch is to make and vote on laws. The executive branch is made up of the president, vice-president, and top leadership positions such as the head of state, head of government, defense minister, and the foreign minister. The main purpose of the executive branch is to enforce the laws, even though they do much more than just that. The judicial branch are courts that interprets and applies the law. Congress can then overrule the veto with a two-thirds vote in each chamber, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The legislative branch also has the power to impeach the president if necessary, but to date not a single president has been impeached. The judicial branch cannot make or enforce the law, it only interprets and applies the law. Everything has to be approved by each branch, and they all have to be in compromise with each other. Overall, I believe the system of checks and balances is a well devised system that was thought out thoroughly. It was strong enough over 200 years ago when it was written and it continues to be strong enough for our still growing
