Essay On The Renaissance Era

The Renaissance Era challenged the teachings of the church because it made people start to question if they were teaching the truth. The Renaissance Era began after the tragedies of the Black Death and The Crusades left the catholic people questioning why god would bring this to them and also left the Europeans wanting to go back to the glory days of the Roman Empires. The teachings of the church were challenged through the art, catholics inside the church and scientific advancements. The Renaissance inspired a new way of thinking that changed Europe forever. Art in this era was reformed and made to question the church’s teachings. Artists reinvented their drawing techniques. They drew with proportions, symmetry, detail, and made the paintings three-dimensional. In addition to changing their techniques, some of the most famous paintings made in the Renaissance era questioned god. The School of Athens made by Raphael for the Apostolic Palace does not show god anywhere in the photo. The painting shows all of the great scholars in Athens during the Roman Empire. Martin Luther was a Monk for the catholic church. He wrote a ninety-five theses based on all of the wrong doings of the church after witnessing it first handed. He posted the Ninety-Five theses on the door of a church in Germany. Ih the theses he stated, “21. Therefore those preachers of indulgences are in error, who say that by the pope's indulgences a man is freed from every penalty, and saved;”. Most of the theses was driven by indulgences. Indulgences were a guaranteed spot in heaven if you payed a fee to the priest. Because of the Gutenberg press , the theses reached everyone in Europe.
