Females played a vital role in World War I in the areas of providing food, the work they did, and the frontline. Many in the city would have starved if some of them hadn’t stepped up to grow food for the people. When the men were gone, someone still had to work the factories. Women took responsibility and worked. There were many different occupations for women to do on the war front, if they didn’t fight. Some of the jobs were bandaging people up, driving trucks, and a few brave women even fought. This was extremely hard for them, but they worked hard in so many ways.
Food was one of the many issues that needed to be dealt with when the men left for war. One-hundred-thirteen thousand women grew food for the individuals. They were called farmenettes because they produced the food. Also, they did the chores that needed to be done on the farm. Some chores included picking cotton, cleaning the houses, and taking care of the animals. The women stayed very busy throughout the war.
