The goal of many religions is to guide people through life. Similarly, The Alchemist has many lessons that tend to be about finding yourself through the main character Santiago. Santiago goes through so many conflicts to find his treasure, find himself and ends up meeting many people who help him including The Gypsy, The King of Salem, and The Alchemist. All of whom help him in achieving his dream to find the treasure in The Great Pyramids of Giza. In some organized religions, a character from some sort of sacred text, there is a story about a someone finding themselves after going through some tough time. The Bible is a prime example of this. Joseph, a character from Genesis who goes through so much after his brothers plotted to kill him. Coelho’s book brings a lesson that is seen in other text considered to be sacred to some. In the novel, Santiago starts off by following a dream of his to go to the pyramids. He decides to go to a gypsy to find out more about it and travels a great distance to find the treasure. In some spiritual text, this is seen such as the challenge that Abraham has when he has to decide to either kill his son for god or choose to be humane.
