Sura 93 is phrased completely in second person giving the entire passage a feeling of separation from the reader. Psalms is in first person, placing the reader within the verse creates a more personal feel. It is also structured in metaphors describing it as if the reader is a sheep and God is a shepherd. At times this makes it hard to follow and pull out the meaning without some critical thought. Sura 93 holds three rhetorical questions starting with “Did he not…?” and ending with the verses, “Therefore do not wrong the orphan, nor chide way the beggar. But proclaim the goodness of your Lord.” (The Koran 93:9-10). The diction of these verses gives a blunt meaning and forceful tone, as in “Did he not do this for you? Then you must give thanks to show appreciation.” These verse make the reader feel as if they have to worship their God because of all the things he has given them, not because they want to out of thanks like in Psalms 23.
