Whole Group Analysis
1. What percentage of the whole class or group met the learning target/objective. Cite specific example and/or evidence. What criteria did you use to evaluate learning? What percentage did not meet the learning target? 100% of the class met the objective defining natural resources, renewable, and non-renewable resources. They were also able to use literacy strategies to decode the new vocabulary and properly placed the words with their appropriate definitions in the graphic organizer. About 90% of the class met the objective to identify, describe, and classify resources as renewable or nonrenewable. When analyzing these students’ graphic organizers, they properly classified …show more content…
How did technology increase student engagement and learning? What changes would you make? The Flocabulary video was a fantastic recap of what we previously learned and continued to build on that prior knowledge. It was captivating and taught students more about natural resources in a relatable way using real-world experiences. The doc camera was also very beneficial for me to model examples and for the students to follow along.
5. What changes, if any, might you make to increase student engagement in the following areas:
a. Planning: Next time, I would plan a more desirable way to close the lesson. I felt as though it was rushed and I quickly called on students to share what they wrote on their exit ticket. I would plan on having a closing discussion and talk about what was easy or difficult, what was one thing they learned, and what would they like to know more about.
b. Instruction: I would include a completed example of what I expected of the students when they completed the categories on their own. I would also give students the option of drawing an answer instead of just writing. I would give students a specific amount of time, set a timer, and check in with students (“There are about 5 minutes left, you should have about 3 completed by now, …show more content…
One sample should be from a student that represents a teaching challenge related to your expectations for this lesson.
1. Did each of the students meet the learning target/ objective? If so, how did he/she meet the objective? Student A met all the objectives and they filled in each resource correctly with a written description in their graphic organizers. Student B almost met the objective and correctly labeled each resource, but did not complete the description. Student C completed 4 out of 6 resources, but drew detailed images for the 4 they wrote.
2. In what areas did students have difficulty and successes? Student A had success when describing each resource and why it was renewable or nonrenewable. They made the connection that when nonrenewable resources are used, they are gone and renewable resources can be found everywhere and continue to be renewed. Student B found difficulty completing the descriptions of the nonrenewable resource. I believe understanding how and where oil and coal are difficult to grasp and would plan on showing images or a video of what mining these resources does to the earth and how much is remaining. Student C found difficulty describing the last two resources, but their drawings for the 4 were detailed and promptly fit the
