December 12, 2014 As a democracy founded upon civil liberty and led by its citizens, the United States government has progressed and changed with the passing years based on the demand of the populace. There are many factors that play key roles in bringing forth these changes, and shape the culture and climate surrounding how these changes are forged. The process through which the population breaks down these changes and develop their own perspective on politics is referred to as Political Socialization (“Political Socialization”). For example, because of Catholic values, followers of this faith have shown a pattern of liberality on economic subjects, while conservative on family values (“What Factors Shape Political Attitudes”). Other strong examples are in the Islamic faith, which include religious practice of Sharia Law which imposes harsh restrictions on women and sometimes violent punishments for the violation of this Islamic law (Hasan, “What Do Radical Islamists Actually Believe In?”). Just like the various examples previously stated, a large portion of my beliefs stem from my own family. I was raised by a mostly conservative minded family, which focused highly on many Christian values. I attended church with my mother, and often listened to political topics discussed at these venues. With my parents being separated when I was very young, I was also exposed to my father’s differing perspectives. Whereas my mother was more conservative economically, my father was very adamant about liberal economic policies. I believe that because my father was more passionate and verbal in his beliefs, I identify more with him in these
