According to Chamberlain (2017) “healthcare workers in every setting are being challenged with becoming and staying computer literate”. Nurses are included in every aspect of healthcare; therefore, it is a necessity to become familiar with the use of computer for documenting patient information. My work place recently adopted the use of computer for documenting patient’s information, care plan, medication administration, etc. From my point of view, safety is #1 priority when it comes to patient care. I care for geriatric patients that are high risk for fall. I advocate for the use of floor mats alarm that will alarm the staff when the patient is trying to get out of bed. Most of them have a bed alarm but they will detach the alarm from their clothing and this has resulted in few falls. …show more content…
I scored low on the use telecommunication technologies to assist in effective communication in a variety of healthcare settings. I was above average in other areas and I demonstrate knowledge and skills in using patient-care technologies, information systems, and communication devices that support safe nursing practice. As nurses, we must be certain to enter quality patient data into the computer so others can use the information to generalize reasonable plan of care that is specific and centralized to the patient. “Nursing informatic may be broadly defined as the use of information and computer technology to support all aspects of nursing practice, including direct delivery of care, administration, education, and research.” (Hebda, T. & Czar, P., 2013, p.6).
