To begin, Mayan culture was made of many segments. Religion, military, and the arts were very important to this great Mesoamerican civilization. Concerning religion, the Mayan people were polytheistic – meaning they believed in multiple gods. They worshipped beings connected to nature, such as gods of the sun, moon, rain, and corn. They are quite a bit similar to the ones the Mayans used. The Mayan calendars predicted the end of the world and the spring and fall equinoxes. Even though we know that the world did not end on December 21, 2012, the dates of the equinoxes were actually quite accurate. The Mayans developed agricultural systems that were highly sophisticated for their time, as well. These achievements and developments were especially helpful to the evolution of modern times.
In conclusion, the Mayans were passionate with their culture (including religion, warfare, and the arts), they disappeared mysteriously, and they had a sizable impact on modern times. Even though they were brutal and passionate to the point of extreme violence, they were still a very important part of the ancient Americas.
