From leading the Alabama bus boycott, to giving the famous “I Have A Dream” speech, Martin Luther King has been a leader and inspiration from the start. King is an inspiration because he fought for equality and tried to lessen racism. Also, he was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. The “Jim Crow laws” were banning blacks from mostly anywhere the whites were. Everything was separate. From cars to bathrooms and classrooms, blacks and whites were separated. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 allowed for the outlaw of discrimination based on race, gender, color, or national origin. This act was significant because it led to black men and women being able to have basic rights as an American citizen. King also delivered the “I Have a Dream” speech during this time. He did this to lift the spirits of all the people listening at the March on Washington. King was an inspiration again during this time because he knew what to do and how to accomplish the best things during the civil rights movement.
