In the United States our drinking age is 21, but in reality many people drink way before that. The drinking age should definitely not be lowered, but completely illegal for all because of the emotional distress it causes, the body damage it creates, and also the lives of human beings. First off, humans are very emotional. When a person has had too much to drink they become a different person than when they are sober. For example, when humans are stressed out, they believe that alcohol will lower their stress levels, but that is not the case. When drinking, mentally a person feels less stressed, but the body is stressed on because of the alcohol itself (Alcohol Myths vs Facts). Not only does it affect the person who is drinking, it also affects the people around the drunken person. For example, Richard Weeks was an alcoholic for months. The human body shuts down when too much alcohol is consumed. The liver is the one organ most people bring to mind when they drink and the bodily complications. Not everyone knows that the brain, heart, and the immune system is also highly affected. Long term or short term there are consequences of drinking. Alcohol consumption creates a loss of coordination and reflexes. Alcohol slows the brain’s neurotransmitters, which can also cause changes in mood and behavior. The heart can beat irregularly from drinking. High blood pressure and strokes are more likely as well. Drinking causes a mess inside the human body. Every time Alcohol is consumed the immune system is affected and the ability it has to fight infections is lowered, as well. The human body cannot handle the affects alcohol
