Dr. Seuss is known for his use of unique vocabulary, and illustrations. The Lorax is able to paint the reader an image of the land, and it makes it more of a personal matter. The colorful truffula trees and the animal’s depicted makes the book tug at the heart strings once the deforestation begins. Another element which makes The Lorax stand out is the Lorax himself. He is the metaphorical voice of the animals and the plants. The fact that he speaks for the environment’s pain and sorrow makes you think about what the world would be telling us if it had a voice. Without a legitimate voice, the problem is seen as invalid. The “Mirror of our Fate”, on the other hand is more of an analytical piece of literature which scientifically states that the destruction of Easter Island was caused by humans. Even though there aren’t any colorful landscapes, or descriptive words, it is still easy to imagine what was going on at that point in time. Both writing pieces brought out the root of the problem, and addressed the cause for hope regardless of how it was put into
