Authority is the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. Based on the definition of the word, the authority that Jesus claimed was absolute, that which belonged to God alone. Therefore, we need to acknowledge the authority of Jesus Christ in everything that pertains to our lives as Christians. Carson (1995) states that much if the demonstration of Jesus’ authority comes in the form of accounts of His miracles (pg. 48)
According to Carson (1995), Jesus heal a man with a skin disease known as leprosy (pg. 48). Matthew 8:1-4 says “When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He [Jesus} taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are -- the Holy One of God!" But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."
