Addictions come in all shapes and forms. Its the littlest things that we grow so attached to and it won 't take long until it becomes consuming. For decades, we have found an addictive problem and tried to fix it through the war on drugs. Despite government 's efforts, it is still an ongoing issue. In today 's society, the greatest problematic addiction we face is not drugs, but technology. Although technology would seem more like a solution rather than a problem since it allows quick communication, creates work efficiency, and a place to obtain or store information; every positive will have a negative. Imagine the world 's electrical grid failing to function. This caused all things requiring electricity stop functioning as well . What would you do? The TV and computer won 't turn on, phones will die eventually, and food in the refrigerator are becoming spoiled. Will you tweet about it? If one day we woke up and technology stopped working, mostly everything that one would think about doing, can no longer be done. People take advantage of technology because has made our lives simpler but at the same time it has made us even lazier. Phones for example, is a portable way to store and find information through its apps. You can store phone numbers in a contact book within the phone so you don 't have to remember it. It sounds convenient, but what would happen if a phone is useless to you? In an emergency situation, the first thing people would do is get to safety and/or call someone. However, "if you lost your cellphone and all of your contacts, it 's very possible you 'd have no idea how to get in contact with anyone, let alone someone important to you" (Kirschner). If a phone is lost, dead or is unable to get service, how are you going to get in contact with someone if you can 't remember a phone number? The people that say that multitasking is actually a good thing think that it 's because you can get more things done at one time. However, those tasks won 't be done accurately or properly and could lead to worse results. In addition, the time put into trying to do more at once could be reduced be doing it one at a time. Judi Casey, a former Director of The New England Work and Family Association, says "we are often multi-tasking, so its very difficult to restrict ourselves to a single point of focus and think creatively" . Our mind cannot fully pay attention to more than one thing at once no matter how hard we try. When we do more than one thing, thoughts start to scatter and will take longer to gather then, our body will naturally stress out. An example of multitasking going bad is texting while driving. Every time a driver picks up the phone, they will be 23 times more likely to get into an accident. 34% of Americans admit to texting while driving and 52% have admitted to talking on the phone. In 2011, 23% or 1.3 million auto collisions involved cell phones (Texting and Driving Safety). People that text and drive are turning their attention away from the road which is why the likelihood of an accident increases. Why type a few words when there 's a risk in losing your voice altogether through death? Another less costly example of multitasking comes from students and
