Honduras is known for its many exports, historical backgrounds, and geographical background. Honduras literally means "Great Depths" (Uoles). Author, Ralph Lee Woodward tells us that: Honduras is in Central America, situated between Guatemala and San Salvador to the west and Nicaragua to the south and east. The Caribbean Sea washes its northern coast, the Pacific Ocean its narrow coast to the south. Its area includes the offshore Caribbean department of the Bay Islands. (Woodward) In 1821, Honduras won independence from Spain and they joined the Central America Federation until they split off and became their own country in 1841. Honduras meaning great depths is in Central America. Tegucigalpa is the largest city in Honduras. It is on the banks of the River Chalutecam on the slopes of El Picacho (Interesting Facts). The lower class people wear second-hand clothes and the higher class people wear suits and dresses. Honduras is known for their flour tortilla and bean mixtures. If you want a dessert in Honduras you can get a dessert called Tres Leches Cake. Honduras is known for its many famous soccer players, but they are also known for baseball and American football. Honduras was in the first Olympics that was held in Latin America in 1968. There are many holidays and celebrations in Honduras where people have parades and eat food, like mardi gras here in the United States. There is one holiday called Lluve de Peces which translates to "rain of fish" where fish actually rains from the sky. There are many ways to travel in Honduras like to walk, bus, car, canoe, boat or ferry. Honduras is known for having two capitals. The biggest exports are textiles and apparels and the biggest imports are gold and palm oil. In conclusion, even thou Honduras has the highest murder rate in Latin America, that still does not take away from the interesting historical details that are buried deep inside the Honduras
