Culturally congruent interventions that are supported by evidence to aid Hispanics families in accessing health care include state and national policies. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a national policy created to give Americans the opportunity to access affordable health care with limited discrimination (Shaw et al., 2014). It gives the Hispanic population a better chance in receiving health insurance coverage. A second policy, Building Strong Readers in Minnesota, is a state policy targeted at children in grades pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade. It makes sure that once children get to 3rd grade that they can read at the appropriate reading standard for the state (Lieberman, 2015). For children in Minnesota who come from only Spanish speaking families, they can learn the English language and become English speaking adults who can understand health care information in the future. Lastly, Early Head Start (EHS) programs are in use for low-income families with children and pregnant women. It is important to allow the Hispanic family to tell their story and the nurse must actively listen, thus creating a supportive environment. By creating this climate, trust is formed between the family and nurse. The Hispanics also deserve to be treated fairly and equally. The nurse needs to advocate for those that are not seeing equal care. Lack of ability to access health care is the main challenges seen in Hispanics. Healthy People 2020 objectives that would be effective in establishing this family intervention plan include reducing the proportion of persons who are unable to obtain or delay in obtaining necessary medical care, dental care, or prescription medicines and to increase the proportion of persons with health insurance (Healthy People 2020,
