There are many similarities and differences within Mark 5.21-43. Mark’s writer intercalates both stories because the writer is stressing the idea of healing and kinship, which is “norms that regulate human relationships within and among family groups” (Malina and Rohrbaugh, pg.377). According to Powell intercalation is “or the inserting of one story within another (pg. 42). So what might be the point of doing this? Powell stated, “the point of intercalation is to promote readers to consider two otherwise unrelated stories in the light of each other”(pg.42).

When evaluating the two stories it is important to emphasize the similarities between the two stories and its significant in understanding it. The concept of faith for both is important in this story when Jesus says, “daughter your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” When Jesus is biding her to go it shows that she has faith in him to cure her of illness however, when compared to Jarius daughter when Jesus “Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe”(v.36) this shows that he is telling them to have faith when the woman’s desire to touch him is interpret her attitude as her faith to heal because of him. A third similarity that is shared with both stories is the significant of number twelve. The daughter of Jaruis’ is 12 years old and the woman has been hemorrhaging for 12 years. The twelve apostles were chosen by Christ to serve as the foundation for His Church (Matt. 10:1-7), as well as the kingdom of God (Luke 22:29-30). This shows that the number twelve is significant because it implies structural being and foundation of organization. A final similarity between

The Proto-Gospel of James, also referred to as the Infancy Gospel of James, is one of several non-canonical Gospels written in the second century. Though the Proto-Gospel of James (“proto-” as it describes events prior to Jesus’ birth, life, and death) is considered scripture by some groups and includes characters and events discussed in the canonical Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John, the narrative was not ultimately included in the canonized New Testament, as opponents of the Proto-Gospel of James argue that it verges on Mariolatry (the idolatrous worship of the Virgin Mary) for its focus not on Jesus, but the Immaculate Conception and virginity of Mary. The narrative describes Mary as a perpetual virgin; she is conceived by the Holy…

Reading Genesis chapters 1:1 – 2:3 I was amazed to find out that earth wasn’t something that was already in existence, but that earth was something created by Someone who was already in existence. The first chapter of Genesis starts off in verse one saying “In the beginning God” implying that he was there before all things. God is not only a master in creating but I learned in this narrative that he is also a master in designing. What really strikes me is that I am able to recognize one of God’s attributes which is that he is omnipotent. He has power over nature.…

Jesus did not touch her to heal her, as he did when healed two blind men (Matthew 20:29-34). Jesus did not use spit to heal her as he did when he cured a deaf man (Mark 7:31-37). In conclusion, it was her faith that Jesus saw that made him want to heal her.…
