Sun is the essential part of our life. It helps regulate the climate and it is the main source of energy in the ecosystems. If just one of these factors changed markedly, it would impact all life on Earth. Furthermore, sunlight also helps our bodies to form vitamin D underneath the skin. This vitamin helps people to build and maintain bones. However, beside all of it’s good qualities, the sun can also be harmful in large amounts.
One of the most dangerous factors from sun is exposure of UV radiation. The UV radiations are separated by different wave lengths, and the most common types are UVA and UVB, which have a variety of effects in the skin due to the absorption patterns of chromospheres, the parts of the molecules. These ultraviolet radiations lead to mutations that the cell may not be able to overcome and thus leading to uncontrolled growth and eventual skin cancer. Even though, melanoma accounts for less than one percent of skin cancer cases, however once people get melanoma, then they will have higher risk of death and one UK study found that estimated 86 percent of melanomas cases are caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. And on average, a person’s risk for melanoma doubles if he or she has had more than five sunburns.
On the other hand, the dangers of ultraviolet radiation only happen when there’s over exposure of radiations. Actually Small amounts of UV are beneficial for people and essential in the production of vitamin D. UV radiation is also used to treat several diseases, including rickets, psoriasis, eczema and jaundice. Therefore, I will analyse the data of average exposure of ultraviolet radiation and average rate of getting skin cancers from different countries, and find the correlation between this two data in order to find out what is the safe amount of exposure of ultraviolet
