I witnessed a variety of vulnerable patients who had been mistreated and needed help. This showed me how vital it is for health services to provide the best care possible, whether it be mental or physical. It has inspired me to want to make services better for those liable to injustice. During school I was able to conduct an experiment testing conformity amongst students. It was gripping to be part of something I had only before read about in studies such as Asch’s experiment of conformity in groups. Through my understanding of research methods I directed a pilot study to perfect the methodology before carrying out a structured experiment ensuring valid and reliable results. Whilst carrying out the experiment I established a critical approach and was able to critique my findings as well as my peers, finding improvements where applicable.
My History A Level has helped me to evaluate sources critically, engage with opposing opinions and present my own independent conclusion. The questions I had from my deep interest of Nazi Germany and World War Two were explained by studying Social Psychology as theories such as obedience to authority were explained. Also, studying Economics has increased my awareness of the world around me and helped me to analyse and reason both deductively and inductively.
